Frequently asked questions about RC education experience
Applicable to all undergraduates in residential colleges
Question 1: Do all freshmen have to live in a residential college (RC)?
Answer: If there are no special circumstances, all undergraduates are staying in RC in their first year of undergraduate studies.
Question 2: Is it possible for me to stay in RC for four years?
Answer: Residential colleges reserve beds for freshmen every year. The extension (readmission) of RC residency in the next academic year will depend on whether the student submits an application before the application deadline, the actual supply of bed spaces, the number of applications, and the results of the final application approvals.
Question 3: When should I submit an application for RC residency extension?
Answer: For those who wish to stay in RC next year, they are required to submit an application for RC residence extension this academic year before application deadline. Regarding application method and deadline, please contact the student leaders, academic staff or general office in your RC for details.
Question 4: What are the evaluation criteria for RC residency extension applications?
Answer: RC will rank all the RC residency extension applications. In principle, the ranking is evaluated according to the applicant’s participation and performance in RC educational activities in the past year or individual special needs. Social workers or counselors may be involved in the evaluation process when necessary. The College Master will make the final decision of ranking.
Question 5: How much is the RC accommodation fee?
Answer: The RC accommodation fee for undergraduate students (including local, non-local, and exchange students) who enroll in the 2024/2025 academic year is MOP 16,500. The dormitory accommodation fee only covers accommodation and does not include daily meal expenses or other expenses. The RC accommodation fee may be adjusted every year and the details will be announced accordingly.
Question 6: When should I pay the RC accommodation fee?
Answer: RC accommodation fee is paid in two installments each academic year, and students need to pay according to the payment deadline as indicated on the payment slip.
Question 7: When can I apply for a refund of RC accommodation fee?
Answer: a) If the student applies for a withdrawal at least two weeks before the start of the RC residence period or earlier, he or she is eligible to apply for a full refund of the paid RC accommodation fee; b) If the student applies for a withdrawal within two weeks before the start of the RC residence period, he or she can apply for a refund of 50% of the paid RC accommodation fee; c) If the student withdraws after the start of the RC residence period, no refund will be given.

Answer: We encourage students to dine with teachers and their peers in RC dining halls. It is believed that this environment would facilitate academic and cultural exchanges.
Question 10: What is “Communal Meal Participation subsidy”?
Answer: In order to implement the educational concept of “Live and Dine together” in RC education, the university provides “communal meal participation” subsidy (“CMP Subsidy”) for undergraduate students to use in assigned RC dining halls (You may contact the office of your affiliated RC for information if you have any inquiries). Students are not allowed to sell or transfer their CMP points to others.
Question 11: Can I dine in other colleges?
Answer: Undergraduate students enjoy the inter-college dining arrangements at their own cost.
Question 12: Do I need to pay for my meals in RC dining halls?

Question 13: How many “CMP” subsidy (points) do I have during the first year of undergraduate studies?
Answer: Undergraduates during their first year residing in college receive 2,000 “CMP” subsidy (points) per semester (maximum 200 points per week). Question 14: How much is one “CMP” point?
Answer: One point of “CMP” is equivalent to MOP1.
Question 15: How will the university handle my unused “CMP” points every week?

If they use fewer than 100 points within a week, the difference between the actual subsidy amount used and 100 points limit will be returned to the college. At the end of each semester, any remaining points from the “communal meal subsidy” will be returned to the university.
Question 16: Do I have “CMP” points every year?
Answer: After fulfilling the requirement for undergraduate students to reside in the college for one year (typically during their freshman year), regardless of whether they continue to reside in the college during their sophomore, junior, and senior years, the university provides them with 250 “communal meal subsidy” points per semester. This is done to encourage senior students to return to the college and participate in activities. The allocation of “communal meal subsidy” points may be adjusted each year, and details will be announced separately.
Question 17: When I am promoted to Year 2, Year 3 or Year 4, how will the university handle my unused “CMP” points every week?
